Historic City Tour
Built by the United Fruit Company in 1927, Puerto Armuelles was one of the largest and most important cities in Panama for many decades. But as time wore one and profits dwindled, altercations arose between the American company and local unions and the company decided to abandon operations in the area, turning over all lands to the unions and their members. Lacking the experience and education to handle such a massive project, the banana business died shortly thereafter, taking most of Puerto with it.
